Eco-Connoisseurs: Go Mobile with the Samsung Reclaim

Eco-conscious individuals will have an excellent choice for communications on August 16th, when the Samsung Reclaim is available for purchase. This brand new cell phone, brought to you by Sprint and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile), features an eco-friendly design and will be available for less than $50! 40% of the Reclaim's outer casing is bio-plastic, created from corn. The packaging and tray that the phone arrives in are created from 70% recycled materials, while the text and images on the box and warranty papers are printed with soy-based inks. The Reclaim will be the first ever cell phone created from bio-plastics and with the phone, Samsung and Sprint have thrown down the gauntlet to other massive telecommunications companies. It can be done - we do NOT have to sacrifice service or convenience in order to be eco-friendly...and what's more - we don't have to pay extraordinary prices, either! This makes the first truly eco-conscious effort on the part of a mobile phone company, and it's certainly something to be excited about. What Needs to Happen Now: Now that a company has stepped up to the plate and created the most eco-friendly cell phone ever, it's up to the public to embrace it. As the Reclaim becomes more popular, other telecommunications companies will be forced to make 'greener' phones and show the public that they are also willing to do what they can to protect our environment and provide consumers with eco-friendly technology! August 16th, the phone will be available at all major retail outlets, including Best Buy, Radio Shack and on the web at www.Sprint.com. Other Interesting Things about the Reclaim:
  • Consumers will find no thick paper manual in the box with the phone! The traditional manual has been replaced with a virtual manual you can check out online.
  • The charger for the phone is Energy Star approved and uses twelve times less energy than a typical Energy Star standard for standby power. The coolest thing - it reminds users to unplug when the phone is finished charging!
  • The Reclaim is free of PVC, phthalates, and has a significantly reduced amount of brominated flame retardants.
About the Phone: The Samsung Reclaim is a feature-loaded QWERTY slider, promising the latest in technology for users. It features a One Click social network-oriented interface, a 2 megapixel camera and GPS. While it's certainly not a phone that is going to shock the socks off of tech-worshipers, the price is unbeatable and the benefits to the environment are thus far unmatched in the mobile phone industry. Furthermore, with each purchase of a Samsung Reclaim, $2 will go the 'Nature Conservancy's Adopt an Acre Program.' "This generous donation from Sprint will help us protect and restore some of America's most beautiful and ecologically-important landscapes for future generations to enjoy," said Mark Tercek, president and CEO of The Nature Conservancy. "We applaud Sprint's sustainability efforts, as innovation and new technology are crucial to the future of conservation." To read the full press release and learn more, click here.
