Raser H3 Brings New Meaning to Green Transport
"When Hummers go green" is similar to saying "when pigs fly" - at least until now. Raser Technologies unveiled the big, rugged hybrid H3 yesterday at the SAE World Congress in New York. The green Hummer is an extended-range-electric vehicle, capable of driving up to 40 miles in electric mode and achieving 100 mpg with near-zero emissions - quite an improvement for a gas-guzzling SUV!
The Hybrid Hummer looks like a standard H3, it features 4-wheel-drive, and it still carries the same payload. The only downfall is the lack of towing capabilities - but with this sort of eco-friendliness from an SUV, we may be able to overlook it.
Three battery packs, a 260-hp turbocharged engine, and a generator are the heart of this electric hybrid. The engine is the same used in some of the electric vehicles designed by Fisker Auto and the lithium-ion batteries weigh in at a total of 600 pounds.
The Raser H3 can plug in to either by a 110-volt or 220-volt outlet and can be fully charged in 3 to 10 hours (220-volt outlets reduce the charge time by nearly half). Production for the new Hybrid Hummer is scheduled to begin 'soon' and Raser Technologies plans to have at least 2,000 similar extended-range-electric trucks and SUVs on the road by 2010.

I guess pigs are about to fly. or hummer has got themselves a brilliant team to understand the direction our society is going. hopefully many cars will be following!
