Samsung Blue Earth: Recycled Plastic Bottle Cell Phone
The Green Connoisseur brought you news not too long ago about about the Samsung Reclaim, the most eco-friendly cell phone on the market.
However, Samsung has now gone one further, introducing the 'Blue Earth' cell phone - created from recycled water bottles. It includes a large solar panel on the back of the phone, and the charger uses significantly less energy if the owner forgets to unplug it!
Features of Blue Earth
Blue Earth has a feature that seems to be a 'must have' in most of today's technology products - a touch screen. Other great features include a 3 megapixel camera, music and video players, Bluetooth, 3G and FM radio.
Sure, it's not the iPhone, but it has one thing eco-connoisseurs are going to love - the built in pedometer counts your steps while you're shaping up, and allows you to calculate the reduction in CO2 emissions that results!
More Eco-Features
When the phone is not plugged into the charger, the charger only pulls a mere 0.03 watts of electricity. The packaging is created from recycled paper and printed with soy-based inks. The Blue Earth is free of beryllium and phthalates, and is not made with brominated flame retardants.
When Can You Get It?
Blue Earth has been anticipated for quite some time, but reports say the phone will be launched in Sweden this month, then across Europe and Asia. Sounds like it may be ready just in time to buy one for yourself and perhaps a friend for the holidays!
